Employment Opportunities: Part-time Bookshelver - Central Library
Location: Central Library, 200 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Hours: Part Time
Minimum Starting: $6.97 Hourly
Start Date: Immediately
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Bookshelver works in circulation services and facilitates the use of Library materials by consistently and correctly maintaining the orderly arrangement of Library materials. Sorts Library materials or records according to Library coding/organization systems; arranges the materials/records in appropriate storage/display areas. Looks at materials in storage/display areas (“reads” shelves) and rearranges any disorganized materials and maintains the neat and organized appearance of an assigned area by picking up trash, straightening books and other materials, and otherwise maintaining the area as assigned. Looks for worn or damaged materials, removes such items from display/storage areas and shows them to his/her supervisor for possible repair or withdrawal. Occasionally may perform customer service duties at the circulation desk.
REQUIRES: Great customer service skills and excellent communication skills, and the ability to enforce rules are required. Some evening and weekend hours required, including some Sundays. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, must adhere to Library’s Dress Guidelines (“Business Casual”, and must maintain good personal hygiene in compliance with Library Code of Conduct.
