Important Note about Pandigital

In order to be able to use your Pandigital eReader with EVPL eBooks, you must download and apply the Pandigital firmware update. Visit www.pandigital.net/downloads, select your model (white or black), and follow the directions to run the update application.

Step 1: Install Adobe Digital Editions

Before you can transfer files from your computer to your eReader, you will need to install Adobe Digital Editions and establish an Adobe ID.

Step 2: Checking out eBooks and downloading them to your computer

To view the library's eBook page, go to www.evpl.org , click the tab for "Downloads," and click "Overdrive @ EVPL.

Or use the following link: www.evpl.org/overdrive.

In the gray area on the left, go to "Browse eBooks."  You may browse by category or use the search bar at the top of the page.

When you find a title you would like to check out, click "Add to Cart," then "Proceed to Checkout."  Enter your EVPL library card number.  Select the checkout period (7, 14, or 21 days) and click "Confirm checkout."

Click the "Download" button.  When the eBook finishes downloading, it should automatically open in Adobe Digital Editions.  If not, you may have to select Adobe Digital Editions from the list of programs to "open with" in the download box.

**If the initial download fails or you need to access your checked out eBooks for any reason, you may do so by clicking on the blue "My Digital Account" tab at the top left of the page.  "My Bookshelf" will show the items you have checked out along with download links.

Step 3: Transferring the eBooks from your computer to your reader

If Adobe Digital Editions opens the book in the Reading View, switch to Library View by clicking the Library View button at the far upper left.

Connect your eReader to your computer if you haven't already, using the supplied USB cord.

On the list area at the left, below "All Items," "Borrowed Items," etc., you should see an icon for your reader.  In the library area, you should see an icon/thumbnail image for the eBook you just checked out.  Click on the icon for the eBook and drag it to the name or icon for your reader on the left.  (You should see a green plus sign when it is positioned correctly and you may release the mouse button.)  This will complete the transfer of the eBook to your reader.

When you disconnect your eReader, you should now be able to open the book in your reader's library.

Locating the eBook on a Nook Color device

On the Nook Color, eBooks checked out from the library do not appear in the normal "Bookshelf" area. To locate these files on the reader, press the upward pointing arrow at the bottom area of the screen, then press "Library." In the library, press "My Files." You should now see the EVPL eBooks within this area.

Having problems with original Nook/Nook Wi-Fi devices?

If you are having problems with the "non-color" Nook (files not transferring correctly, etc.), this is a fix that sometimes helps: With your Nook connected to your computer, open "My Computer" and open the drive for the Nook device. Within the Nook directory, located the folder named "Adobe.Digital.Editions" and delete the folder.

Unable to transfer eBooks to your Sony Reader?

Some users have reported problems loading eBooks onto their Sony eReaders even after correctly completing the steps above. If you experience these problems, such as an error message regarding device authorization or permission, it may be necessary for you to download and install the Sony Reader Library to your computer. This software is similar to Adobe Digital Editions, but is designed by Sony to work with the Sony eReaders. After downloading and installing this software, you may be able to complete the transfers using the Sony Reader Library software. Or, once you have linked your eReader to the software, you may then be able to successfully use Adobe Digital Editions with the reader.

Locating the eBook on a Pandigital eReader

After the transfer is complete, your EVPL eBooks will appear in the "Adobe eBooks" location. The icon is near the end of the sliding toolbar on the bottom of the touchscreen.

Having problems with the Pandigital eReader?

At times, the Pandigital Novel may become stuck and unresponsive, even preventing you from powering off. When this occurs, you can reset the device by inserting a paperclip or similar object into the slot marked "Reset" on the top of the eReader. If you have difficulty using the touchscreen with your finger, you can use a smaller object as a stylus, such as a paperclip or pencil.

You will need your Amazon username and password in order to complete this process. We recommend signing in to Amazon before checking out the book from our site.

These messages are NOT from EVPL and do not affect the terms of your library download. EVPL never solicits purchases or charges any fees for the use of digital library material.

Step 1: Find & check out Kindle eBooks on our website

To start, visit our digital catalog at www.evpl.org/overdrive. Search for a title using the top search bar or browse by category using the "Browse eBooks" link in the gray area on the left.

When you find the Kindle eBook you want, click "add to cart" across from the "Kindle book" version.

On the next screen, click "Proceed to checkout." Select the lending period (7, 14, or 21 days) and click "Confirm Checkout." At the download page, click the "Get for Kindle" button.

Step 2: Get the eBook from Amazon

You will now be taken to an Amazon.com page. You will need to sign in with your Amazon username and password if you haven't already.

Select the desired device under "Deliver to," and click the yellow "Get library book" button. If your Kindle device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, it will automatically download the eBook. Turn the Kindle on and push the Home button (it may take 1-2 minutes for the download to complete).

If you do not have Wi-Fi, you can also deliver the eBook to your Kindle via the USB cable. In this case, connect your Kindle via USB, click "Download Now" on the Amazon "Thanks" page, and save the file to the "Documents" folder of your Kindle (Computer > Kindle > Documents).

Step 3: Return a Kindle eBook early

Your EVPL Kindle eBooks will automatically be returned when the loan period expires. However, if you wish to return an eBook early, you may do so through your Amazon account. Go to Amazon.com and log in with your username and password. Go to the "Manage Your Kindle" page (Shop All Departments > Kindle > Manage Your Kindle). Click "Actions" for the library eBook you wish to return, and select "Return this book" from the options.

Step 4: Read the eBook on another device

You can download and read the eBook on an additional device, such as an iPhone, iPad, or Android device with the Kindle app. Simply open the app and refresh or check "Archived Items." Your progress, bookmarks, and notes will even be synced between the two devices!
