Explore the history, culture and experiences of people of the African Diaspora through the vibrant storytelling of Richard Ashby, Jr. and Teju, the Storyteller.

Richard Ashby, Jr. is an award-winning, nationally recognized public librarian and storyteller. He performed and shared stories of the African American experience across the Northeast, South and Midwest. Mr. Ashby’s most notable performance is the reenactment of Henry Box Brown, the man enslaved in Virginia who mailed himself to freedom in Philadelphia.


Teju, the Storyteller an award-winning storyteller, folklorist, and oral historian. His stories are drawn from African traditions and African American history and folklore. An in-demand storyteller, Teju has performed across the country and has appeared in numerous movies and videos.
