Award Winners

Notable Childrens Books

Each year the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) picks notable children books. Notable should be thought to include books that are of especially commendable quality, books that exhibit venturesome creativity, and books of fiction, information, poetry and pictures for all age levels (birth through age 14) that reflect and encourage children's interests in exemplary ways.

Caldecott Medals

Caldecott Medals are awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

Coretta Scott King Awards

The Coretta Scott King Awards are awarded to authors and illustrators of African descent whose distinguished books promote an understanding and appreciation of the "American Dream."

Ezra Jack Keats Book Awards

The Ezra Jack Keats Book Awards are awarded annually to an outstanding new writer and new illustrator of picture books for children. The award is sponsored jointly by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation and The New York Public Library.

Hans Christian Anderson Award

The Hans Christian Anderson Award is awarded every other year by the International Board on Books for Young People, and is presented to a living author and illustrator whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children's literature.

Newbery Medal

The Newbery Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

young hoosier books

The purpose of the Young Hoosier Book Award Program is to stimulate recreational reading among elementary and middle school/junior high school children and to encourage cooperation between administrators, school media specialists, teachers, public libraries, and the community in providing reading experiences for Indiana school children.
