Educational Materials Center

The Educational Materials Center in the READ Center is designed to support local teachers and teacher education programs by providing examples of learning resources typically used at the Pre K-12 levels of instruction.

Vanderburgh Country residents are eligible for an EVPL library card at no charge. Teachers who live outside of Vanderburgh County but teach in the county are eligible for an annual courtesy library card with proof of employment.

Special Services for Teachers

A teacher may call and request books on a specific subject and grade level and we will compile a collection including children's fiction and non-fiction from the educational materials area.

Student Teachers

For student teachers, we will be glad to show you how to use the computer and how to gather materials you need.

If you live on campus or in Vanderburgh County, you are eligible for an EVPL library card. If you live outside of Vanderburgh County, please ask how you can purchase a PLAC card.


Curriculum Guidance

The EMC has books and websites with sample curricula from school districts, state departments of instruction, federal agencies and commercial publishers as well as information on how to create, adapt, or improve curriculum.

Teacher Resources with reproducible pages

This collection includes materials from all subject areas and grade levels. Most books have reproducible worksheets or games.

Bulletin Board Books

You can find books with ideas, patterns, and sample bulletin boards for all seasons. Many have ideas for interactive bulletin boards.

Subject Area Materials

The educational materials area includes a collection of books for every subject area and grade level by various publishers. This area also includes kits like "Hooked on Phonics" and "Hooked on Math", plays and reader's theater books covering a wide variety of topic and themes.

Seasonal Idea Books

Many books to help you adapt your plans monthly, seasonally or to include special events.

Study Guides for Tests

We have study guides for tests such as the PPST, Praxis I and II and subject area practice tests from various publishers.

Computer Software

Browse our collection of educational computer software and CD-ROM.

Special Education Resources

A collection of books, videos and other materials for adults and children to read about specific learning problems and disabilities. There are also materials with tips for working with these kids.

Children's Collection (in the READ Center)

The Read Center has a large selection of fiction and non-fiction for children. We have a vast array of board books, toddler books, picture books, easy readers, books with cassettes or CD's, juvenile fiction in paperback and hardback, juvenile non-fiction suitable for research and reports, audiobooks, CD-ROM's, children's music, videos and DVD's - educational and popular movies.

Young Adult Collection (in the Teen Zone)

This collection has young adult literature and audiovisual material suitable for individuals or class use for grades 6-12. Non-fiction materials are found on the 2nd floor.

Literacy Materials and ESL

This collection was provided by the Literacy Coalition and also includes materials for people studying English as a second language.

Braille Books and Sign Language

Our small Braille collection is really for teachers who want to show their students books written in Braille. We are expanding this collection as titles become available. We also have books about sign language for babies, children, school age, teens and adults in various locations.

Teacher Periodicals Collection

This is a large collection of magazines related to teaching. It currently includes 100 magazine titles covering all academic areas and grade levels including special education.

  • Mailbox (Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grades 2-3, & Intermediate and Bookbag)
  • Teacher's Helper (Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grades 2-3, & Grades 4-5)
