Government Information & Publications

Finding government information online can be a complex, frustrating, but ultimately rewarding endeavor. EVPL would like to make your search a little easier with these helpful suggestions. Check out these helpful links when you don't know what agency to go to:

  • The U.S. Government's Official Web Portal is more than just a search engine. It organizes the federal government into understandable subject divisions and allows you to browse.

  • The Catalog of Government Publications lets you search for any printed or electronic federal publications that have come through the Government Printing Office.

  • U.S. Government Bookstore allows you to search for and purchase federal publications that have come through the Government Printing Office.

  • GPO Access offers you direct access to databases and publications from the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the government.

  • Science.gov can be used to narrow your search to only government publications of a scientific nature. You can use the search engine or browse topics.

  • THOMAS comes from the Library of Congress and gives you "up to the minute" information on what's happening in Congress, historical congressional information, and judicial information.

  • Ben's Guide to US Government for Kids is a wonderful, entertaining site for children of all ages, and educators, to learn about our government.
