Wireless Internet Access
The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library provides free wireless internet access at all locations. Library customers need to bring their own laptop, with a wireless network card, and configure it to use the library's internet connection. The library provides electrical outlets, but a charged computer battery is recommended. Customers wanting to use audio files should bring their own headphones.
Wired internet access is also available at all locations. For wired access, customers need to bring their own laptop with a network card and an ethernet cable.
Wireless Access Instructions:
Windows Vista
- Ensure that your laptop's wireless connection is turned on. Some laptops have a switch. Others require a key combination, such as Fn (Function) & F2. Please refer to your laptop's documentation for more information.
- Locate the wireless connection icon in the taskbar in the lower-right corner of your screen. (Example)
- Right-click the wireless connection icon and select "Connect to a network." This will bring up the "Connect to a network" window. (Example)
- Under the "Wireless Network Connection" section, select "evpl-public" and click the "Connect" button. (Example)
If the "evpl-public" network does not appear in this window, verify that your wireless connection is turned on and click the
button.
- You'll receive a warning that you are connecting to a public network. Click the "Connect Anyway" button. (Example)
- Once you receive a message that you've sucessfully connected, click the "Close" button to exit the "Connect to a network" window.

- Restart Windows
Mac OS X
- Click on the AirPort icon in the top right status bar. (Example) (If there is no icon, click the System Preferences icon in your dock (Example), click "Network" and be sure "Show AirPort status in menu bar" is checked. (Example) If the System Preferences icon does not appear in your dock, open your hard drive, click on "Applications" and find "System Preferences" in the list.)
- After clicking the AirPort icon, be sure your AirPort is on. (Example)
- "evpl-public" will appear in the list of available wireless access points. (Example)
- Click "evpl-public" to connect to the network.
