Favorite Teen Events - Gaming

Once upon a time... all the way back in the summer of 2006... the teens had planned to have an end-of-summer gaming program. No definite plans were included about HOW to have this event, but it was at least on the Library's calendar as a teen event. The then newly-appointed teen services librarian, Maryann Mori, contacted some teens about bringing in their own equipment, and she purchased a used GameCube and a couple of Mario Bros. games to use at this event. About 50 teens showed up--in spite of tornado threats that day, and it was decided that this event was WAY too much fun to limit it to only once a year. Maryann scheduled Library gaming events for every-other Saturday on future teen calendars.

Fast forward to December, 2006. Maryann decided to contact the Public Library Friends about funding to purchase gaming equipment for the teens to use at the library. The Public Library Friends DID give us a generous amount of money that allowed us to get our own gaming equipment (a lot of it!) to use at Central Library as well as more equipment to use as a "traveling set" for gaming events at other EVPL locations. We went from two consoles to FIVE consoles!

Gaming events have been conducted every-other Saturday since the fall of 2006, and attendance has reached as high as 70+ teens who know how much fun it is to do gaming @your library!
