It’s 2019 and publishers are waking up to the fact that all readers can read and fall in love with both authors and characters from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Here are some excellent authors and titles to check out to diversify your romance to be read list.

Alyssa Cole is one of the biggest names in romance right now. Cole has a number of published works to choose from, but she is probably best known for her two current series, Loyal League and Reluctant Royals. Loyal League is a Civil War historical series that includes An Extraordinary UnionA Hope Divided, and An Unconditional Freedom.

Reluctant Royals is a contemporary series that includes A Princess in Theory, A Duke by DefaultOnce Ghosted Twice Shy, Can’t Escape Love (coming March 2019),and A Prince on Paper.

Beverly Jenkins is an award-winning author, and generally considered one of the best historical romance writers working today. Jenkins has many stand-alone novels and series to choose from, including her recent Old West series, which includes Forbidden, Breathlessand Tempest. She also has a new novel, Rebel, coming in May 2019 which will be the first book in her Women Who Dare series.

Jasmine Guillory is the author of the charming and popular contemporary romance Wedding Date series. The series includes The Wedding Date, The Proposal, and The Wedding Party (coming July 2019).

Alexa Martin is the author of a fun, new contemporary series called Playbook, about women dating NFL players. So far, the series includes Intercepted and Fumbled (coming April 2019).

Helen Hoang is the author of the very hot Kiss Quotient series. The first book in Hoang’s series The Kiss Quotient is remarkable in part because the heroine is mildly autistic. The second book, The Bride Test, will be out in May 2019.

Sonali Dev is the author of several wonderful contemporary romances, including A Bollywood Affair and Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors (coming May 2019).

Priscilla Oliveras is the author of the lovely and sweet contemporary series centered around three sisters, which includes His Perfect Partner, Her Perfect Affairand Their Perfect Melody.

Sandhya Menon writes really fun young adult romances, including When Dimple Met Rishi and There’s Something About Sweetie (coming May 2019). She will also have an adult romance novel out in 2021.

Nisha Sharma writes romance for young adults and adults. She is the author of the drama-filled YA novel My So-Called Bollywood LifeHer first adult novel, The Takeover Effect, will be out in April 2019.

Maurene Goo writes young adult romance. Her novels include I Believe in a Thing Called Love, The Way You Make Me Feel, and Somewhere Only We Know (coming May 2019).

Cynthia Leitich Smith has written a variety of books, and her most recent is an exciting young adult romance, Hearts Unbroken.
