Central Library

The 145,000 square foot Central Library opened in September of 2004, replacing a 1930s building one-fourth of its size. Highlights include the READ Center with story room, enclosed garden and activity area, the Popular Materials Center which includes the Teen Zone, the Reference and Technology Center, the Indiana History Room, study rooms and meeting rooms, the Talking Books Service, a book store, and a café and café garden. In addition, local artists' work is found throughout the library. There are over 130 public access computers at Central. Wi-Fi and computer access are available throughout all EVPL locations.

Located on the first floor of Central Library, Circulation Services manages the Circulation Desk & self-checkout stations, oversees customer accounts, and re-shelves returned Library materials.
The Circulation Desk has 3 checkout stations, 2 stations for library card applications, and 2 self-checkout stations to better serve you. Staff offers assistance with the following services:
- Apply, update, or replace a library card
- Check out and check in materials
- Renew Library materials
- Pay fines or fees due
- Answer questions about your account
- Purchase a guest barcode for computer usage

The Popular Materials Center is located on the first floor of Central Library. PMC is home to many materials & services, including the following:

Located within the Popular Materials Center on the first floor of Central Library, the Teen Zone is a reserved area for students ages 12-18. Special seating, eight teens-only computers, and ample study space make this area a popular after-school gathering spot!
The Teen Zone features the following materials & services:

- Reference assistance
- Regularly-scheduled events for teens, many that are student-led.

- 27 public-access computers, available for up to 2 hours per user per day
