Monte Skelton to host Learn, Build, Play! Family Edition at EVPL

Evansville – Local acclaimed musician and music educator Monte Skelton will host Learn, Build, Play! Family Edition, an interactive instrumental music program, at seven EVPL locations this summer. The first event will be this Wednesday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at EVPL McCollough.

Learn, Build, Play! Family Edition is an interactive instrumental music program built upon the series introduced last summer at EVPL. Designed to bring families together, this program is inspired by the playful spirit of Acoustic Rooster and his Barnyard Band, showing how different sounds and different people create something amazing when they work together.

The Learn portion of the program will demonstrate how sounds and people connect, starting with the audience stomping, snapping, and clapping together. Families of instruments will be introduced, demonstrating how winds, strings, and electronics work together, using live-looping technology to layer them into a full “musical family.”

During the Build segment, individual ideas will be turned into a team effort. In the “Parent-Child Loop Challenges,” volunteers will record sounds and build a song live, showing how every voice matters in the creative process.

In Play, the event concludes with a hands-on instrument building session. Families will leave with handmade instruments designed to be played together, along with the inspiration to keep the band playing at home.
