The ofrenda is the centerpiece of any Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration, and people throughout our community will be creating ofrendas in honor of departed loved ones.
La ofrenda es la pieza central de cualquier celebración de El Día de los Muertos y la gente de nuestra comunidad podrá crear ofrendas en honor de los fallecidos.
An ofrenda is a decorative array of objects, thoughtfully selected and arranged to honor and evoke memories of a departed relative, friend, or public figure. Tradition holds that the ofrenda attracts and guides the spirit home, to linger once a year in the love and companionship of the living.
La Ofrenda es una colección decorativa de objetos, seleccionados cuidadosamente y arreglados para honrar y evocar recuerdos de un familiar, amigo o figura pública que ya haya partido. La tradición mantiene que la ofrenda atrae y guía al espíritu a casa, para que disfrute, una vez al año, el amor y la compañía de los que lo sobreviven.

Setup hours
- 1:00 – 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 25
- 10:00 am – 6:00 pm on Monday, October 27

Additional tips and guidelines
- The tables available are 2.5’ x 6’. You can reserve a half or full table. Please specify which you would like when you sign up. Please check with us if you would like to bring your own table. Space is limited.
- The walls are painted masonry, so lighter items may be attached with poster putty.
- We may be able to suspend slightly weightier elements from the drop ceiling track, but you will need to make arrangements to do so (please mention in your email).
- In the center island of tables, we can pin items to the cloth room divider. We’ll address this as needed the day of the event.
- As much as we would like to, we can’t allow real candles in this space. If you wish to use candles, LED votive candles are easily found and look increasingly realistic.

Consejos y reglas adicionales
- Las mesas disponibles miden 2.5’ x 6’ pero son pocas y están limitadas a los que lleguen primero. Si prefieres traer tu propia mesa, por favor indícalo en tu correo electrónico.
- Las paredes son de mampostería, por lo tanto, los objetos ligeros pueden ser colgados con masilla.

Consider featuring some of the following in your display
- The base of an ofrenda is often a table or piece of furniture, stacked with an arrangement of boxes to produce levels, which are then covered with decorative cloth. In varying folk traditions these levels can represent heaven, Earth, purgatory, or the stages a soul travels through to reach the afterlife.
- An arch can represent the gateway between the worlds of the living and the dead.
- Sugar skulls are meant to represent the deceased to whom the offering is dedicated. The name is often written on the forehead.
- Pan de Muerto (“bread of the dead”) is one of the Spanish traditions, representing the Eucharist.
- Crosses (another Spanish tradition) or other symbols of faith can be used, if appropriate.
- Copal is a resin burned as incense since Pre-Columbian times, said to clean and sanctify the environment.
- Petates, or woven mats of palm leaves, provide the spirit of the departed a place to rest.
Considera representar alguno de los siguientes elementos en tu altar
- La base de una ofrenda es una mesa o un mueble con cajas acomodadas de cierta manera en la cual se representan niveles, los cuales están cubiertos con tela decorativa. En el folklore de la tradición, estos niveles representan el cielo, la Tierra, el purgatorio, o los niveles en los cuales el alma viaja para llegar al Más Allá.
- Un arco representa el portal entre el mundo de los vivos y de los muertos.
- Las calaveras de azúcar representan a los fallecidos para los cuales se dedica la ofrenda.
- El Pan de Muerto es una tradición que representa la Eucaristía.
- Las cruces, es otra tradición y símbolo de fe que puede ser usado, si lo juzgas apropiado.
- El copal es una resina que se quema como incienso desde tiempos precolombinos para limpiar y santificar el espacio.
- Los petates, o tapetes hechos con hojas de palmas, proveen al espíritu de los fallecidos un lugar para descansar.
The “Four Elements”
- Candles (in our case, LED candles!) representing FIRE, guide the spirit home.
- Paper (paper picado) which moves so easily in the breeze, represents AIR.
- Water is often provided in a glass for thirsty souls.
- Flowers or other plants, especially marigolds, represent the EARTH.
Los “Cuatro Elementos”
- Velas ( en nuestro caso, velas LED) representan al FUEGO, guían al espíritu a casa.
- Papel Picado, que se mueve fácilmente con la brisa, representa al AIRE.
- Agua es ofrecida en vasos para las almas sedientas.
- Flores u otras plantas, especialmente las caléndulas, representan la TIERRA.
