As we reach the starting line of another school year, I think it is safe to say we all find ourselves all too unsettled. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the expectations that everyone – teachers, students, and families – have for going back to school. EVPL continues to provide services and resources both in-person and through digital and virtual experiences to support teachers and students.

New Services

UPDATES TO OUR WEBSITE

You might notice that EVPL has been working to improve evpl.org over the past several months. All main functions are now available to you through a simplified navigation at the top of the site.

BOOK-A-LIBRARIAN

EVPL’s Book-A-Librarian service allows you to reserve appointments with librarians for up to one hour of uninterrupted, personalized reference, or technical assistance. We are happy to chat with you via telephone, or we can set up a videoconference appointment using Zoom, Google Meet, or another platform. Appointments will be available Monday – Saturday between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.

EVPL RECOMMENDS

If it’s not easy to make it to the library during our current open hours, but we’re still here for you – and students – to help find the right book, film, CD, or other items easier. We are excited to now offer EVPL Recommends, a personalized recommendation service where you can schedule time with a librarian to help you virtually browse the library. We have several options to connect with you and would be delighted to talk about books, DVDs, and more.

  • We can schedule an appointment for a phone conversation.
  • We can join you online for a virtual face-to-face meeting.
  • We can send you an email with a personalized list based upon your preferences.

EVPL TO GO

As part of the library’s phased reopening, EVPL To Go was relaunched early this summer at all of our locations. Anyone can place holds using the EVPL website, EVPL App, or by calling the library, and we’ll deliver your holds for contactless pick-up outside the library.

Digital Collections

EVPL has expanded its digital collections to include Kanopy, as well as TumbleBookLibrary, TumbleMath, and TeenBookCloud.

WHAT’S NEW

Kanopy is an on-demand streaming video platform for public libraries and universities that offers films and documentaries. Kanopy‘s subdivision, Kanopy Kids, includes children’s programming; all Kanopy member accounts have access to Kanopy Kids. All Kanopy content is licensed for viewing in classrooms and for educational purposes. (Note: Kanopy is only available on EVPL library cards; not available to students using eAccess cards.)

TumbleBookLibrary (grades K-6) has over 1,100 titles for grades K-6, and includes unique animated, talking picture books, read-along chapter books, National Geographic videos, nonfiction books, playlists, as well as books in Spanish and French. Plus, the collection features Graphic Novels – a student favorite.

TeenBookCloud (grades 7-12) is a curated database of eBooks and other digital content featuring over 1,000 titles, including student-favorite Graphic Novels, enhanced eBooks with full audio narration, and highlighted text, classic literature, National Geographic videos, and more.

TumbleMath (grades K-6) has the most comprehensive collection of math stories available anywhere – all in the world-famous TumbleBook format which combines animation, narration, and sound to create a compelling and enticing storybook for students of all ages. The books are all accompanied by supplementary materials such as lesson plans, educational games, plus quizzes in order to test and track progress.
