While EVPL is closed and health experts are encouraging social distancing, it can be difficult to stay busy. Below are just a few resources for kids, teens, adults, and families.
Kids
- Kids Activities Blog has rounded up more than 100 education companies who are offering free subscriptions while school is closed. All of these resources will allow you to sign-up for free and provide an educational experience.
- Storyline Online has several videos available 24/7 for children, parents, caregivers, and educators. Each video has a celebrated actor reading children’s books alongside creatively produced illustrations.
- The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems! Mo Willems is a children’s book creator. You can join Mo every weekday at 12:00 pm CST.
- Hoopla has thousands of Read Alongs. These eBooks come with narration and highlights words as they are read.
Teens
- The Testing & Education Reference Center has tons of resources to help with homework and prepare for tests. Students can learn basic skills or get STEM help. You can search for scholarships and learn about career opportunities. Plus, students can take ACT, SAT, PSAT, GMAT, and more practice tests.
- Write lyrics to wash your hands to by using Wash Your Lyrics, created by fellow teen, 17-year-old designer and developer, William. According to health experts, one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) is to wash your hands for 20 seconds. You can use your favorite songs or create your own lyrics.

- Step away from technology and journal. Journal Buddies has 55 prompts for teens including: Would you rather stay up late or get up early? Are you good at keeping secrets? Why or why not? Would you rather read a book or watch a movie version of a story?
Adults
- EVPL’s digital resources are for everyone! Here’s how to access eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, movies, TV shows, and more:
- OverDrive and Libby: Delve into an eBook or audiobook on your internet-enabled device.
- Hoopla: Browse comics, eBooks, eAudiobooks, TV, movies, and music on your computer or internet-enabled device. You may even be able to watch shows and movies on your TV.
- RBDigital: Choose from over 150+ magazines on your computer or internet-enabled device.
- Comics Plus: Discover comics, manga, and graphic novels on your computer or internet-enabled device.

- Do some genealogical research using Ancestry Library Edition and other EVPL resources. We have blogs that break down how to use these resources to fill in your family tree: Genealogy 101, Genealogy 102, Genealogy 103, and Genealogy 104.
- Work on your resume with Brainfuse JobNow, another EVPL resource. You can get live resume help, build a resume from several templates, and get interview tips. We have another blog post that breaks down how to use Brainfuse JobNow.
- Sign up for our eMaterials newsletter. This newsletter has suggestions for all types of books and movies you can watch or read on your phone, computer, or tablet.
Families
- Scholastic has put together a website offering daily enrichment projects for kids stuck at home, sorted by grade level. Each lesson contains four separate learning experiences, each built around a thrilling, meaningful story or video.
- One of our librarians, Ms. Lauren, has put together a couple of Spotify playlists for kids. Here’s what she says, “Some of the songs involve props, so find a washcloth or dish towel to use as a scarf, and put some beans or popcorn kernels in a plastic container with a lid (and tape around it to securely close), and get your wiggles out!”
- Our tremendously talented youth staff are putting together digital storytimes! Keep an eye on our social media for videos.
- Hoopla suggestions: 100 Toddler Favorites, Vol. 1- Music for Little People Choir, The Best of the Laurie Berkner Band, Toddler Favorites- Music for Little People, Kidz Bop, 100 Kids Song for a Roadtrip -Countdown Kids, Moana Soundtrack (and many more, like Mary Poppins, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, etc.!), Disney’s Greatest Volumes 1-3, Here Comes Science- They Might Be Giants, Baby Beluga- Raffi, and World Sing Along- Putumayo Kids.
- For kids who need to shake out some wiggles, check out the Go Noodle YouTube page. Filled with lots of high energy songs to encourage movement, your kids are likely to recognize their music from breaks at school.
- Take a virtual tour to some of the most well-known museums around the world. Museums include: the Guggenheim Museum in New York, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seol, South Korea, and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
